Three Places to celebrate International Jazz Day in Lagos this year!

Hey guys,

How are you all doing?

So it’s International Jazz Day in a couple of days and Nigeria is not even about to carry last on this. Who’s excited?

If you didn’t know, 30th of April is International Jazz day. The day was officially designated as such by UNESCO in November, 2011. International Jazz Day is the end of Jazz Appreciation Month, April.

Enough said, Lagos is celebrating too and will be swarming with legendary Jazz artistes from all over the world. So if you want to catch up on great jazz music this Jazz Appreciation Month, I will suggest these three events:

1.The Satchmo Jazz and Culture Festival: So this festival is supposed to start on the 27th of April.

The 27th and 28th will be International Jazz Day Pre-Countdown events; the first on April 27th at Oriental Hotel, and another on the April 28th at The Blowfish where attendees will enjoy live music and floetry. The main International Jazz Day Countdown Event will follow the next day on April 29th at Oriental Hotel; leading to the UNESCO International Jazz Day Concert on 30th April 2016. Have you seen the line up? From Organic Jam, to Carlo Rossi, our very own Imole Balogun and Femi Leye.. This already promises to be a lot of fun!

2.Runway Jazz: From Friday the 29th of April, Eko Hotel will be hosting Runway Jazz.

Kirk Whalum will be live in Lagos for this! Omawumi, Yinka Davies and even the Former Governor of Cross-River State, Donald Duke will also be there with his band! Can you believe that?

3.Lagos International Jazz Festival: This is probably where you can find me celebrating the International Jazz Day!

Freedom Park will be hosting various jazz starts from all over Africa and beyond from the 28th through the 30th of April.

It’s the weekend ladies and gents! So you have no excuse.. Where are you gonna be?

Know any other events worth adding? Let us know in the comments!

Tootles,

‘Yemisi!
